Appliance Hoarder Clearance

Appliance hoarder clearance is the specialist work of removing accumulated domestic appliances from a hoarded property. Long-hoarded homes typically contain multiple generations of appliances — old fridges and freezers behind newer ones, obsolete washing machines and dryers, unused kitchen appliances still in packaging, and often collections of televisions, computers and smaller electrical items accumulated over decades.

The regulatory framework

Appliances are Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013. They cannot be disposed of as general waste. Each item must be routed through an approved WEEE treatment facility with a producer evidence note (or equivalent household WEEE record) issued for the load. Where positive-value scrap streams (metal, WEEE credit) are significant, these are netted against the invoice.
